Is Shopt right for my car?

Collector car insurers look for cars that are enjoyed, not commuted in. Here's what most of them want to see.

Shopt is a good fit if your car is driven for pleasure rather than daily transportation, kept in a private garage or secure enclosed storage, and driven by people with a relatively clean record. The insurance companies each draw these lines a little differently, so if you're close, request quotes and let them decide.

How you use the car

  • Driven for pleasure — not your daily driver (some limited commuting may be allowed)
  • Club outings, cars & coffee, shows, meets, tours and rallies

Where it's kept

  • A private garage or secure enclosed storage
  • Not on the street, in a public garage or in a public lot

Your driving record

  • No excessive-speed or reckless-driving violations
  • No alcohol- or drug-related violations

Not a fit for Shopt

  • Daily-use commuter vehicles
  • Off-road vehicles, RVs and motorcycles
  • Business or commercial use
  • Track days, racing or competitive driving — never covered

What kinds of cars?

Classics and antiques, muscle cars, hot rods, restomods, replicas and kit cars, sports cars, exotics and modern collectibles. Modified cars are fine — the form asks about modifications so each insurer can price them. Eligibility for high-performance exotics varies by insurer; very high-value vehicles and collections are reviewed personally by our concierge team.

Not quite a match?

Shopt doesn't quote everyday auto insurance. If your car isn't a fit today, the quote form lets you join our list and we'll check back with you in 3, 6 or 12 months.
